To avoid reliance on standard telephones, intercom systems provide the ideal means to summon assistance and locate key members of staff and the networked system PAS Sound provided recently at the Glan Clwyd hospital in North Wales was chosen specifically to meet these requirements.
Adopting programmable call points at various locations around different departments of a new A&E department, members of staff are able to call individual locations or groups of points with a couple of button presses. The system is also linked to public address speakers in circulation areas to expand the coverage.
The new facility which brings GP out-of-hours service, emergency department, acute medicine unit and surgical assessment unit can all come together under one roof is part of a £90M investment in the site.
Working alongside the fire and security contractors on the project, PAS supplied and installed the equipment within the programme of works for the main contractor Laings. The system by being expandable can be re-configured easily to meet changes of use and linked for further expansion to other areas of the hospital.
